Rabbi Stuart Federow

Rabbi Federow is the spiritual leader of Congregation Shaar Hashalom. He was born and raised in Springfield, Mo. He earned his undergraduate degree in Psychology and Religious Studies from Brown University in Providence, R.I. After ordination from the Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute Religion in Cincinnati, Rabbi Federow served for five years as the rabbi in Greenville, Miss. While there, he simultaneously served two other congregations in Rolling Fork and Clarksdale. For a year he served in Monroe, La., in addition to the other three. He then went on to serve for Beth Knesset Bamidbar ("the Synagogue In The Desert") in Lancaster, Calif.

Rabbi came to Houston in 1989 and served as the executive director of the B'nai Brith Hillel Foundation of Greater Houston until 1995. Hillel supports the religious and social needs for Jewish college students from campuses throughout Houston.

This Rabbi, who formerly flew private airplanes, teaches an introduction to Judaism class at Houston Baptist University. Rabbi Federow received a doctor of divinity (D.D.), honoris causa at the Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati, Oh, on June 3, 2007. This marks the celebration of Rabbi Federow’s 25 years of service and contribution to the community.

Dr. David Capes

 

Dr. David Capes serves as chair of the Department of Christianity and Philosophy at Houston Baptist University. He earned degrees from Mercer University (BA 1978) and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (Mdiv 1982; PhD 1990). In 2000 he was appointed visiting fellow of the faculty of Divinity at the University of Edinburgh where he carried out original research on early Christian worship practices. He is author or co-author of:

-Old Testament Yahweh Texts in Paul's Christology

 -The Footsteps of Jesus in the Holy Land  

-The Last Eyewitness: the final week  

-Rediscovering Paul: An Introduction to His World, Life and Theology

-The Mystery of Melchizedek

 

 

Father Mario Arroyo

Father Mario Arroyo was born in Havana, Cuba and emigrated to the United States.  He attended St. Mary's Seminary in Houston, Tx. and was ordained for the Diocese of Galveston-Houston in 1977.  Since his ordination, he has been associate pastor at St. Benedicts Church, Diocesan Vocation Director, Pastor at St. Pius V Church and is currently Pastor at St. Cyril of Alexandria in Houston.  Father Mario has done research in spirituality and theology and speaks on the influence of culture on Faith.
